No, that’s bullshit. No artist should cram down the throat of the audience his or her own self-importance. And just because a sentence may have taken a long time to write does not mean that it is good or that you must respect it.
In fact, putting a greater emphasis on the amount of time it took to create something rather than the quality of the creation itself is exactly what’s wrong with — well, just about everything. If you spend all week making shitty soup, you’ve wasted everyone’s time. Next time make better soup. Oh, and never confuse the amount of time you invested in a project with something important.
